Ecotherapy (Nature Based Therapy)

A peaceful lake surrounded by a dense forest with fall foliage. A small wooden cabin is nestled among the trees, with its reflection visible in the calm water.

Ecotherapy, or Nature Based Therapy, is a way of healing that recognizes our deep connection to the living world. Instead of meeting solely in an office, sessions may include time outdoors such as walking a trail, sitting on a bench (or beneath a tree), or simply noticing what’s around you. It steps out of the confines of the indoors and opens up new possibilities and ways of healing that have long been overlooked.

Ecotherapy can help restore integration including developing a sense of grounding, belonging, congruence, and inner peace. Research and lived experience alike show that time in nature regulates the nervous system, eases anxiety and depression, supports addiction recovery work, and supports trauma integration. But beyond symptom relief, Ecotherapy helps us remember who we are: relational beings, capable of connection, attunement, and renewal.

In this work, we don’t use nature as a tool…we form relationship with it. Each practice becomes an opportunity for contact, presence, and transformation.
